Spoofing, aka Web Access App Disguising

When your web browser or other web access app connects to a web server, it communicates information to the server about your application among other information.  Some web access apps allow spoofing to get around restrictions set by some web-apps.  Spoofing is the act of changing your app's "user agent string" to that of another app.  Hana supports spoofing.

Why spoof?  In the case of Hana, at least early on, no Web Apps have heard of Hana, so they do not know what Hana is and may shut you out or tell you to get a supported browser.  By setting Hana to spoof Safari, Hana will display any Web App that supports Safari.  Pretty much flawlessly too.

But what about Firefox?  You can spoof that browser too, but there is a possibility that your work could be adversely affected by this.  Use at your own risk!

In Hana 1.1, we added an automatic updating feature for your User Agents.  This is to accommodate changes to User Agent Strings.  Your first update to Hana 1.1 from a previous version will completely clean up the list of previously provided User Agent Strings.  It will replace them with a new list of clean User Agents that are up to date.  A part of this clean up is deleting a number of previously standard Hana provided User Agents.  This may require that you reset the User Agent for some, if not all of your web-apps.  We are sorry for this inconvenience!  In the future we will only delete User Agents if required to for legal purposes.  To prevent any User Agent String from being modified, simply change the User Agent name in the preferences of Hana and it will no longer be updated.

Also new in Hana 1.1 is the Automagically Up-to-the-second accurate Hana User Agent String!  Based on the standard for building User Agent Strings, Hana builds its based on the version of Webkit installed on your Mac.  You cannot edit or delete this User Agent.  It is recomputed every time you open Hana.
